| OPENING THE IZUMI BIALY KAMIEN SUSHI RESTAURANT |

On the 7th of October, 2009 we opened the third IZUMI Bialy Kamien Sushi Restaurant. The first one has been operating on Plac Zbawiciela since September,2006. Its younger sister, IZUMI Sake is located just next to it and along with sushi, it serves various pastas accompanied by selected brands of sake. Warsaw habitants appreciate the food served at IZUMI Sushi and unique atmosphere of these cameral restaurants. That is why, to the owner’s joy, so many people attended the great opening. The evening event was conducted by compositor and satirist, Jerzy Petersburski. Guests were given the chance to taste the exquisite delicacies of Japanese cuisine and to watch the Chef and co-owner of the restaurant, Mr. Alon Than, prepare the sushi. Another attraction was the calligraphy art show. Among the guests presented we noticed : businessman Wojciech Fibak, singers Reni Jusis, Tomek Makowiecki, Patrycja Kazaadi, actress Monika Mrozowska, dancer Zora Koroliow, publicist Janina Paradowska and Ms. Joanna Chitruszko. In Japanese, the name of the restaurant IZUMI, means spring, something giving life to new things. The sign is written by means of two ideographs, which symbolize white, foamy water which briskly launches from the spring. The chef and the creator of the restaurant’s culinary success is Alon Than. Alon Than – sushi master with dozens years of experience in Japan is a true expert on Asian cuisine. Apart from traditional sushi, he indulges in culinary experiments. In his three restaurants he offers cuisine d’auteur, combining Japanese style with the world fusion trend. Izumi sushi, in the second year of presence on the culinary map of Warsaw has won the Gazeta Wyborcza’s title of the Eatery of the Year 2007. Alicia Than is responsible for the atmosphere and numerous details which make up the outstanding climate of the place. She is a Japanese philologist, linguist and translator. She graduated from the Oriental Institute of Warsaw University. Her dissertation, written under the supervision of professor Romuald Huscza, investigated the semantic field of lexem ‘sushi’ in modern Japanese. For the last three years she has been a help in running the restaurant. Greenhouse The history of the place where Izumi Bialy Kamien has its spot goes back to late 20s of the twentieth century. The Greenhouse opened in November, 1929, featuring exotic plants and trees, such as : palm trees, banana trees, fig trees and others. After many years, in September 2009, the Greenhouse has been re-done and gained a new body. The construction has been altered significantly- it was heightened in order for the exotic trees to grow ( some of the plants are over 80 years old!). The building was given a new, modern look and destination. |
